Mission Trip Reflection: NOLA

During my sophomore year of college, I was blessed with the opportunity to take part in the New Orleans mission trip. As nervous as I was about getting on a plane and leaving my family for Winter break, little did I know that this trip was going to change my life forever. During my stay at NOLA, I had the opportunity to bond with the community, as well as those affected by Hurricane Katrina.  During our stay, my team and I volunteered at a soup kitchen, a local farm, as well as the Boys and Girls Club program. We also had the opportunity to hear the different stories of people that struggled in poverty after the hurricane and received a helping hand from those around them. Southern hospitality is real and my trip to NOLA helped we realize that there is no such thing as a small blessing, for every difficult path we encounter we are able to survive, making us stronger than how we were. New Orleans will always have a special part in my heart and I will always be forever grateful for that amazing city and it’s people! “- Alexia Kapetanos, Gamma Kappa
